Every job well done needs recognition. Great men who have made great innovations and inventions has their products named after them. Their success becomes, a legacy, tattooed on their name to be carried even when they leave this world.

With most schools and companies hosting prize giving days, to reward outstanding performances, is the success long lived?

However, often at times we present outstanding performers with gifts that are short-lived. The gifts are either easily used up, lost or even wear out. Bringing a change to awarding performers, Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe has challenged recognition awarding systems.

At a Prize Giving Ceremony at Mutake Primary School, a struggling school in the heart of Goromonzi , Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe brought with them a new approach to recognition. Success should be recognised and be long celebrated.

Bringing with them a philosophy of engraving success for achievers, EBZ awarded all prize winners with trees. The unique way of awarding was greatly received by the community, Guest of Honour Mr. Elija Mapanzure (Educational Representative, College Press) and Changamire Gwindi.

Mr. Elija Mapanzure said, “In my line of work, I have witnessed lots of award ceremonies where different gifts are given to achievers, but it is my first time to see a tree gift. I am humbled by such a gesture, and I hope the children and community nurture the trees so that they get maximum benefits from them”.

The community appreciated more the gifts that will grow, than all the other gifts.

Trees that will grow to provide food filled with nutrition, shade, oxygen and habitat for animals. A tree that grows, a tree that tells a story of recognized success, a story that lasts.
