Day 1

Day started on a high note with a visit to the Hoyt Arboretum. Spend almost 3 hours walking in this serene museum where everyone can learn.

Hoyt Arboretum is a tree museum established in 1928 to conserve endangered species and educate the community. It sits on 77 ha and is home to 2,300 species of trees and shrubs from six continents. The Arboretum is a place of beauty and serenity all year round.

Of the 2300 species, 66 are endangered. Besides the trees Hoyt Arboretum also houses 6000 other forests species which include flowers, wild berries, fern and grass.

The Museum serves as a hub for scientific researches, educational tree library and a tourist attraction.  Not only is it about trees, it also have several events venues for weddings and parties and has 12 miles of hiking trails. To avoid fires, The Arboretum is a non-smoking zone and dogs should always be on a leashes so that they don’t scare or run after wild life.

For easy of identification, most plants have labels with both botanical and English name, year it was planted and country of origin.

A walk in this Museum is so refreshing. One marvels at the size of trees and how the Museum is kept clean.

Small animals, birds and bees were running around, obviously enjoying nature.

Lesson learnt: it’s not too late to do this in any part of the world.

Zimbabwe, let all work together to preserve or forest resources.
