MAKE A MARK…………
People who are today famous and celebrated in history, are because they dared to make a mark. Every invention is celebrated because there was someone willing to make a change in the community, and as such we enjoy the fruits of their work, electricity, computers, telecommunications, amongst an endless list of inventions.
Not all change has to be scientific. Nelson Mandela made a mark by being an icon of peace, Martin Luther King for being a great orator whose speeches transformed societies.
One thing in common about all the people who are today celebrated in history for making a difference is that they saw a problem and worked tirelessly to bring about a tangible solution. Scouts globally are known for their love for adventure, but what’s adventure without memories and making a mark. Inspired by Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust custodianship of the environment, specifically indigenous forests, Zimbiru Primary School Scouts group through the leadership of their patron and teacher Miss Linda Mubariki and Mr. Jonas Musariri (Mashonaland East Province Scout Director) embarked on a project that solved the problem of adverse deforestation in Domboshava.
Deforestation has taken its toll such that people around the area have to walk long distances for firewood that at one time was in abundance. In a successful event hosted by Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust and Zimbiru Primary School Scouts, a solution to deforested forests was provided and implemented. Making their mark in Domboshava, the Zimbiru Primary School scouts groups together with Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust planted seventy (70) trees at the school.
This afforestation project will go a long way, not only as a source of energy or painting Domboshava green but also for use by future generation and the harvesting of non-timber products which the community can directly and indirectly benefit from.
