I am a Tourist Guide now having worked in the Education department for over 15 years in Zimbabwe and in South Africa. I grew up in a semi desert rural area of Bocha in Marange area where due to the nature of poverty the only source of energy accessible to most rural dwellers would be firewood. Over the years the source of firewood being trees depleted drastically so much that the area quickly turned into a desert.
There was extensive use of firewood from use as heat during cold days, for cooking and in brick making. Besides, trees were also used for poles in construction of mud and dagga houses and huts.
With the struggle the communities are having now for alternative sources of energy I also had the passion to grow trees not only for use by our people but also for animal inhabitants. Being a Tour Guide now and realise the drop-in animal population due to among many other factors, the lack of inhabitants, it becomes my responsibility also to bring back the forests and resuscitate animal population.
