Being the change we want.
I am inspired by people in society who believe change begins only with them.
It does not take political speeches, donor funding or activists to bring about the change we want in our lives and communities. It is the realization that we are our emancipation and we are our empowerment.
Driven by the motive to be the change they want to see, team has dedicated itself to Marange afforestation project to replace trees that have been lost to human activity and an awareness campaign on the importance of forests.
The trees that once endowed our beautiful forests have been lost to a single cigarette that started a veldfire in which numerous trees were burnt. Some trees have been continuously cut down to fulfill human needs and wants that include firewood, building, furniture and agricultural purposes, yet there is little effort in place in replacing these trees for future use.
All this however, will soon be history as Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust has become the solution to the environmental menaces posed by deforestation through afforestation.
Taking their love for forest life to Chigonda Primary School, in Marange, Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust made a mark by planting forty (40) trees in a new woodlot at the school. Trees planted included the baobab, munyii, muhute, mupfuti amongst many other indigenous trees the country boasts of. The Headmaster, Mr. Hardwork Dahwa and Mr. Tonderai Rabiwa the School Development Committee member commented Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust for such an initiative which will go a long way in greening the environment. Speaking at the tree planting ceremony, Environmental Buddies Zimbabwe Trust Extension Officer Garikai Mupara emphasized on the importance and benefit of non-timber products like madora, mushroom and honey for both self-subsistence and entrepreneurial purposes.
